Tailgate Party

First Community Bank hosts After Hours Tailgate Party

First Community Bank of Daniels officers couldn’t wait for Monday Night Football, so they moved it to Thursday.

Around 100 local business owners and associates showed up at the Ritter Drive bank for a tailgate party hosted Thursday evening as part of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours program.

Shady Spring High School, West Virginia University, Hinton High School, Woodrow Wilson High School, and Marshall University were a few of the teams represented at the tailgate party.

“We figured since it was football season kicking off, we’d go with the tailgate theme,” First Community Senior Vice President and City Executive Tanner Smith said.

“Since it’s in Daniels, there’s a lot of Shady Spring High School letterman jackets. I’ve called my wife, and she’s bringing my Summers County/Hinton letterman jacket.”

The Lite Side grilled hot dogs and hamburgers on an outdoor grill, and guests sipped sodas and munched on 500 buffalo wings from Hooters.

JukeBox Entertainment, an on-site disc jockey service owned by Steve Gregory, hosted a Jeopardy!-style trivia game for tailgaters.

Prizes included two tickets to a Marshall University football game.

Joe Guffy, chamber information coordinator, said the Business After Hours program gives members an opportunity to network with other business owners in an informal way.

“Networking is one of the main reasons members tell us they join the chamber of commerce,” he said. “We try to offer networking on a monthly basis.”

Guffy said the program gives host businesses opportunities to display their products and business sites.
