Catfish Hole releases 2013 summer schedule

Catfish Hole at Greenbrier Landing in Pence Springs is not only opening this weekend for its second season of commercial fishing, but will offer a variety of events and entertainment during weekends throughout the summer.

This season’s schedule includes:

-- May 3-4, Spring Fling Tournament. Hourly jackpots awarded for biggest fish of the hour.

-- May 31-June 1, Memorial Day Rodeo. Both Friday and Saturday night winners will receive $100. A plaque will be given each night for the most combined weight.

-- June 28-29, Catfish Hole Car Show Classic. Bluegrass music and car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Biggest fish of both nights will be awarded, as well as hourly and additional jackpots (if entered).

-- July 19-20, John Henry Days & Nights. Two tournaments each night: Most combined weight total and biggest fish pool from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

-- Aug. 30-31, Labor Day Luau. Pig roast and brown beans served Aug. 31. Biggest fish of the year trophy and purse.

The cost is $15 per pole at each event.

In addition to fishing at the Catfish Hole, Greenbrier Landing offers camping at the John Henry Campground, which offers 24 yearly lease lots for RV or campers with all utilities. Overnight tent camping is also available.

Greenbrier Landing is located across from the Pence Springs flea market, along W.Va. 3, between Talcott and Alderson.
