Kiwanis of Beckley make donation

BECKLEY — The Kiwanis Club of Beckley presented a check for $500 to Hospice of Southern West Virginia Thursday at Bowers Hospice House. The money comes from a matching grant to the club from the West Virginia Kiwanis Foundation and will be used to purchase a bench to be placed along a new walking trail at the Hospice of Southern West Virginia campus on Cranberry Drive.

“Our patients’ families will appreciate having a scenic place to sit when they use our walking trails,” said Janett Green, executive director of Hospice of Southern West Virginia. “The trails will give them a nice, peaceful place to get outside the facility, or just to sit and appreciate nature during their visit with a loved one.”

Green said the trails are expected to be completed this summer, with help from the Boy Scouts of America. They are part of an ongoing campus beautification project which she said she hopes will someday also include a small lodge for patients’ family members.

“We are thrilled to be able to help such an important organization,” said Bill May, president of Beckley Kiwanis and lieutenant governor for West Virginia Kiwanis District 7.
