LEWISBURG —
Registration for the first Greenbrier County Suicide Prevention Walk will begin at 10 a.m. today with the walk to follow at noon on the front lawn of New River Community and Technical College in Lewisburg.
The walk is being organized by the Hope Coalition of Greenbrier County and Messages for Hope.
According to organizers, Greenbrier County’s suicide rate is higher than the national average and in 2011 had a significant increase in suicide deaths. They invite the community to join with them in raising awareness about the most preventable cause of death, suicide.
The Hope Coalition of Greenbrier County is a local group comprised of medical, mental health, public education, emergency responders, law enforcement, faith and other community leader representatives formed to bring together the necessary public awareness resources, prevention training, treatment and survivor support to reduce the suicide rate in our community.
Messages for Hope promotes hope and encourages healing for the survivors of suicide loss and prevention of suicide through education.
There will be a memory table at the event to honor those lost by suicide and many resources available to help educate the community about available resources for suicide prevention.
