FAYETTEVILLE —
An Oak Hill man accused of attempted murder, malicious assault, and domestic battery pleaded to the lesser offense of unlawful assault in Fayette County Circuit Court on Monday.
Homer Lewis Buckner, 47, was accused of forcing his cane into the back of the mouth of Debbie Cody on March 11 of this year, with the intent to kill her.
A police report states that when officers arrived at an apartment in Maple Court, the woman was screaming and bleeding from the mouth after being gouged with the cane. According to emergency room staff, she would require staples and stitches in the eye and mouth.
On Oct. 21, Buckner was again picked up by police and charged with malicious wounding, assault, possession of a controlled substance, and brandishing of a deadly weapon.
He allegedly stabbed a man in the shoulder with a dinner fork and then pulled his knife from his belt and threatened to stab him, according to a report from the Oak Hill Police.
Unlawful assault is a felony that carries a sentence of 1-5 years in the penitentiary or a maximum of a year in jail with a fine no more than $500.
