Fayette police investigating breaking and entering

The Fayette County Sheriff’s office is investigating two incidents of breaking and entering that occurred within minutes of each other Tuesday.

At approximately 4 a.m., the Fayette County 911 Center received notification of a break-in alarm at the Marathon convenience store in Ansted.

Upon arrival, investigators determined that someone had used a vehicle to ram through the doors and wall of the building to gain entry.

The only items stolen were approximately 20 cartons of Marlboro Black cigarettes and USA 100s cigarettes.

While at the scene of this incident, deputies were notified of a second alarm at Little General in Gauley Bridge.

Police determined that a vehicle was driven into the wall of this business also.

The inventory is still pending at Little General, but police say it appears that Marlboro and USA 100s cigarettes were again targeted at the second scene.

Surveillance videos show that the vehicle used in both incidents was a blue 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The vehicle was recovered in the Dixie area of Nicholas County Tuesday. Police say the vehicle had been stolen from Clonch Industries, a sawmill and lumber operation in Dixie.

Police describe the one of the suspects as “heavy-set” and the other as “thin.”

Both were masked, so investigators were unable to determine an approximate age, height or race, but both suspects are believed to be male.

The thin suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the letters “D.C.” in white lettering on the front.

Investigators are still reviewing surveillance videos and will attempt to release photos.

The Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. They were assisted at the scenes by officers from the Ansted and Gauley Bridge Police Department.
