Man wanted in November shooting turns self in

A Beckley man wanted in connection with a Nov. 12 shooting that left one person hospitalized in “extremely critical” condition turned in himself to authorities Tuesday, Beckley Police Detective Jeff Shumate said.

Darius Toney, 25, was charged with wanton endangerment, taken before Magistrate Greg Tanner and released on $25,000 bond.

Shumate said Toney allegedly shot at a vehicle along Hartley Avenue, and police have determined that the vehicle shooting — which did not injure anyone — is related to the shooting that caused the injuries to the victim who remains in Charleston Area Medical Center in “extremely critical” condition. Police have not released the victim’s name.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and future arrests are forthcoming, Shumate said.
