SOPHIA —
A Beckley woman was hospitalized Wednesday after being struck by a car, according to Sophia City Police.
A 51-year-old woman was transported to Raleigh General Hospital after being stuck by a passing vehicle’s mirror as she was walking along Robert C. Byrd Drive in Sophia Wednesday, Chief Tomi Peck explained.
Peck said it happened around 4:45 p.m. near the Go-mart gas station.
Police were alerted by motorist Chuan Jin Wu, who was driving a Subaru Forester station wagon. He said his driver side mirror, which was knocked off the vehicle, struck the woman in her arm knocking her to her knees as he drove past, Peck said.
No charges are expected to be filed since preliminary investigations suggest the woman was walking too closely to the white line, Peck said.
The woman suffered some abrasions from the incident, Peck said, noting that her injuries seemed relatively minor. However there was no update on her condition from the hospital Wednesday night.
The victim’s name would not be released until she is discharged from RGH, Peck said.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Sophia City Police.
Sophia City Fire Department and Best Ambulance also responded to the scene.
