HINTON —
Police say nine dogs were found in poor condition in an abandoned house in Hinton Tuesday night. Only two dogs survived.
Summers County sheriff’s Chief Deputy James Chellis said he received multiple complaints from neighbors about the abandoned house on Flat Rock Road and found the dogs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
The owners of the house were gone from two to four weeks and conditions were horrible, he said.
“There was dog feces everywhere and a lot of trash,” he said.
“There was no food or water, and from what we could tell, these dogs were in this type of condition for quite a while.”
Chellis said seven dogs were caught that night and taken to New River Animal Hospital. Two of them survived and one of them was adopted Friday.
Chellis says he has two suspects and charges are pending. The incident is still under investigation.
