Greenbrier County grand jury indicts 40 people

— A Greenbrier County Grand Jury returned indictments against 40 people last week.

Fourteen of those people are charged with property crimes, including Leslie Annette Jackson, 40, of Lewisburg who is accused of embezzling $36,800 from Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. According to a court file, Jackson was a payroll accountant for the company at the time the alleged embezzlement occurred, during the period July 1, 2008, to April 8, 2009.

The initial complaint against the woman was made by Gary Bland, manager of the ambulance service. Sgt. V.S. Deeds of the Lewisburg detachment of the West Virginia State Police led the investigation.

Jackson is free on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond. If convicted of the single felony charge, she faces incarceration of between one and 10 years and a fine of up to $2,500.

A court file has not yet been established for a second woman charged with an unrelated embezzlement. Lillian Tamara Russell, 38, of Lewisburg, was charged in an 11-count indictment with embezzling salary payments to which she was not entitled from her Lewisburg employer, Antique Cabins and Barns, in the amount of $10,500, as well as property purchased with a company credit card.
