Haiti prayer service set

An ecumenical prayer service for the people of Haiti is planned for tonight at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley.

Sister Janice Rospert said the service is an opportunity for everyone, regardless of religious denomination, to come together in support of those affected by the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti Jan. 12.

“The prayer service will be in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are suffering so much in Haiti,” Rospert said.

The service will include music, a prayer and blessing from Father Joshua Stevens, as well as readings and words from Father Sam Haddad of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, Chaplain Doug Largent and Northgate Baptist Church Pastor Craig Stevens.

Although the main purpose of the service is to unite in support of the people of Haiti, Rospert says a free will offering for World Vision Cares for Children be accepted.

Rospert says she encourages everyone to attend the service.

“Let us pray together as one human family for our hurting brothers and sisters,” she said.

The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 614 S. Oakwood Ave.
