The sinkhole at the foot of Piney Avenue could be repaired by the end of the week, according to Beckley Sanitary Board General Manager Jeremiah Johnson.
Johnson said crews have been working since Monday to get the sinkhole repaired.
The road can still be utilized by local traffic, but the top of the street is blocked off. Traffic is being detoured around the old Dick Powers Construction building onto Sisson Street, which leads to Robert C. Byrd Drive.
Johnson said the storm sewer is being replaced and a concrete box culvert is being constructed.
Although Johnson said there is no estimated time of completion, he said the sinkhole could potentially be repaired by the end of the week, dependent upon weather.
