Nicholas man charged with producing child porn

A Nicholas County man was at South Central Regional Jail Tuesday after being charged with production of child pornography that allegedly spanned a five-year period, Nicholas County officials reported.

West Virginia State Police charged Steven Vernon Knight, 41, of Richwood, with third degree sexual assault, 42 counts of exhibiting minors in sexually explicit conduct and 42 counts of exhibiting minors in filming sexually explicit conduct, according to a criminal complaint filed Feb. 7 before Nicholas County Magistrate Judge Doren Plummer.

Police charged that from January 2009 until around Feb. 4, Knight filmed one girl engaging in sexually explicit conduct and then displayed the photos on his cell phone.

Police confiscated 42 images of child pornography images of the same victim on Knight’s phone, according to Trooper First Class D.L. Gordon of the Richwood detachment.

The complaint also alleges that Knight sexually assaulted the girl in May 2012 at his home.

Knight began filming the girl when she was 13 years old and continued until she was 17, according to the complaint.

The sexual assault reportedly occurred when she was 15, Gordon stated.

Knight was not a guardian of the girl, and his relationship to her was unclear Tuesday.

Knight was at Central Regional Jail Tuesday under $450,000 bond.
