Water restored in Rupert

— After a water main broke Thursday in Rupert, early reports said the water wouldn’t be back on until around midday Saturday. Repairs went faster than originally estimated and the water valve was replaced around midnight, according to a press release from Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Repairs kept going through Saturday morning on leaks found after the system re-pressurized. There’s no guess as to when everything will be completely fixed.

A boil water advisory is in place because of the repairs. If you have water in your pipes from the pressurization, you can use it to flush toilets, but it has to be boiled if you’re going to use it for drinking, cooking, etc.

Bring the water to a rolling boil for one full minute before using it to kill protozoa, bacteria and viruses, the press release said.

Call Rainelle Fire Department at 304-438-5222 to see when they will be filling containers for Rupert water customers who still don’t have water. Don’t forget to bring your own containers for drinking water.
