Construction should begin on Z-Way first week of Aug.

Construction on the next portion of the Z-Way project, from Stanaford Acres to Robert C. Byrd Drive, should begin the first week of August, according to the project contractor.

Michael Enyart and Sons Inc. of South Point, Ohio, was awarded the bid for $18,152,078.

Dale Roberts, with Michael Enyart and Sons, said they are currently awaiting a “notice to proceed” from the state and will begin as soon as that notice is received.

He said he anticipates 18 months of construction as soon as the project begins.

Beckley-Raleigh County Transportation Authority Chairman Bill Baker said the Authority is already looking at the next portion of the project on the southern end, which will begin at the end of the portion under construction and go through Beaver, Daniels, Shady Spring and toward Hinton.

Baker said an environmental study will be completed and properties will be appraised in the Beaver/Shady Spring area that will need to be purchased for the completion of the Z-Way.

No construction monies have yet been secured for the southern portion.
