FAYETTEVILLE — An Earth Day celebration, organized by the Green Advisory Team, has been set for noon to 6 p.m. next Saturday in downtown Fayetteville.
The event starts at noon with Clint Curtis and the Danz Brothers; then at 1 p.m., a kids concert is scheduled. All children are invited to participate.
At 2 p.m., the choir from Sts. Peter & Paul will sing. The Half Bad Bluegrass Band will perform at 3 p.m., followed by The Wild Rumpus at 4 p.m. Winding up the event will be a performance by Randy Gilkey and The Boatman at 5 p.m.
Plenty more activities are planned for the day, including inflatables, face painting and old-time carnival games, while the adults peruse informational booths and local artisan wares whose pieces are made from recycled or local materials.
The Department of Environmental Protection, National Park Service, Plateau Action Network, Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker, New River Birding and Nature Center, Humane Society, Learning Co-op, Coal River Mountain Watch, Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team, Marathon Bicycle Co., New River Bike and Touring Co. and others will be present with information on environment, healthy lifestyles and kid-friendly environmental educational activities.
From noon to 1 p.m. there will be a kids flower garden behind Water Stone Outdoors.
Earth Day 2010 is sponsored by ACE Adventure Resort; Active Fitness; Adventures on the Gorge; Cathedral Café; Diogi’s Mexican Grill & Cantina; Dot Designs; Forman & Rist; Gorman, Sheatsley & Co.; Hamilton, Burgess, Young and Pollard; Junior Woman’s Club; Oak Hill Garbage; Pies and Pints Pizzeria; Plateau Action Network; Sedona Cantina & Tapas; Songer Whitewater; Tamarack; and Wild Flour Bakery. Donations also were made by Wisteria Gifts, New River Convention & Visitors Bureau, Kula Yoga Studio, Ficon-Bush Insurance Agency and Songer Whitewater.
Prior to Earth Day, Plateau Action Network and the Green Advisory Team are providing a free viewing of the Wild and Scenic Film Festival at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Historic Fayette Theatre.
Also in the spirit of Earth Day, the Town of Fayetteville is sponsoring “Solid Green Keep Fayetteville Clean.” This activity is a town-organized trash pickup for neighborhoods in Fayetteville from 9 a.m. to noon. April 24. Volunteers are needed; call 304-574-0101 for more information.
