Multiple-car accident briefly blocks traffic

Pikeview Drive was temporarily shut down Monday while authorities cleared the scene of a multiple-car accident, according to Beckley Police.

Three cars were involved in the accident that closed the road for approximately 45 minutes, from 1 to 2 p.m., according to Sgt. D.R. Bailey.

Due to icy roadways, cars traveling down the road were unable to stop and were sliding into one another, Bailey explained.

He said one motorist fled the scene after striking the other cars; however, witnesses were unable to provide any details regarding the make, model or color of the fleeing vehicle.

Beckley Fire Department was on scene for traffic control while the West Virginia Turnpike spread salt on the icy roadway.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding the fleeing vehicle to call 304-256-1708, Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867, or 911.
