Committees forming to assist with 2013 Rocket Boys Festival

BECKLEY — Committees are now being formed for the 2013 Rocket Boys Festival, and Director Scott Hill is also seeking volunteers.

Each committee will comprise around three people and tasks will be delegated to each person.

The entertainment committee will focus on the Friday night event, the main stage Saturday and the church stage Sunday.

The contest committee will be in charge of fire hydrant adoptions, essay writing, paper airplanes, rocket launches and the gospel sing.

The vendor committee will organize food, crafts, Writer’s Row and the Road to Homer.

The publicity committee will coordinate with print, radio, television media and control signage, the Rocket Boys website and the Facebook page.

The facilities committee will handle safety, parking and day-of-event signage.

The sponsorship committee will seek sponsors from the community, including both corporate and nonprofit organizations.

The Tamarack committee will be in charge of the bus tour to Coalwood, movie screenings of “October Sky” and the Writer’s Workshop.

The school outreach committee will work with local schools on a high school, middle school and elementary school level.

The VIP guest service committee will handle guest transportation and lodging.

The festival volunteer committee will be in charge of the launch pad, loading in and out, and the information tents.
