Two flown to CAMC after head-on wreck in Fayette

HICO — A head-on collision on U.S. 60 in Hico near Foodland left six individuals injured, and at least two of them remain in critical condition.

Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said deputies responded to the accident around 4 p.m. Friday and found occupants in one of the vehicles were heavily entrapped.

Fire personnel from Ansted and Nuttal fire departments extricated the occupants and two were flown via Health Net air ambulance to Charleston Area Medical Center where they are in critical condition.

Four additional individuals between the two vehicles were transported to Plateau Medical Center. One of these victims was transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment and two have been released, said the sheriff.

Police said icy and snow-covered roads are partly to blame for this accident.

U.S. 60 was closed around two hours and traffic was diverted onto a side road.

This accident remains under investigation by Deputy J.M. Browning and Sgt. S.L. Campbell of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

    The indictment against Smallwood if for death of a child by child abuse, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, child neglect resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.
