Rain and fog are expected in the Beckley area for today and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Monday’s dense fog was caused by a combination of low-level moisture, the temperature and dew points.
Meteorologist Nick Webb said the visibility on a clear day at Raleigh County Memorial Airport is over 10 miles, but Monday, the visibility was only around half a mile.
He expects the fog will clear a bit today with the rainfall.
Rain is expected to continue throughout the night and Webb said low-lying areas and street floods are possible.
“We’re not expecting any major flooding, but we will be watching the amount of rainfall.”
The temperatures will remain in the upper 30s to low 40s for today and tomorrow, so winter weather should not be an issue.
Webb said the rain should come to a stop Wednesday morning, but there may be a strong rise in creeks due to drainage, so take precautions around potential flooding areas.
