19th annual GVT Art Auction to culminate with live event

By Tina Alvey

LEWISBURG — Featuring luxurious international vacation packages, unique artworks and memorabilia, Greenbrier Valley Theatre’s largest annual fundraiser will culminate in a live art auction in Lewisburg this weekend.

The 19th annual GVT Art Auction got under way July 1 with an online auction set to end Friday. Many of the bids that are received in the online component will be used as the opening bids during Saturday’s live event.

The online auction also offers an option for participants to set a maximum bid — in effect placing a sealed bid prior to the live auction, enabling them to be involved in the bidding up to the last moment.

Ryan Ferrebee, GVT’S development manager and coordinator of this year’s auction, explains the new format, saying, “We know we have supporters all over the country and that many of our local patrons go on vacation during the summer. We still want them to be able to participate, and this year they can.”

He adds, “Of course, many of our items, including our 5-star vacation packages to Italy, Hawaii and London/ Paris, will only be available to attendees of the live event.”

To bid in the online auction, or to see the items available in both the online and live portions of the auction, go to www.biddingforgood. com/gvtheatre.

The live auction, which will be staged at the theater on Washington Street in downtown Lewisburg, will commence at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The evening begins with a preview party featuring hors d’oeuvres, beverages and a silent auction at 6 p.m. Tickets to the preview party are $12 and can be purchased at GVT’s box office by phone at 304-645-3838 or in person Monday through Friday between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m.
