The Beckley/Raleigh County Campus of New River Community and Technical College will host an exhibit and speaker at the Public Higher Education Center in Beaver in observance of Black History Month.
The exhibit, which features the accomplishments of African American leaders past and present, will be displayed in the commons area of the PHEC the week of Feb. 8-12.
Anthony Kinzer, founder and executive director of the West Virginia Center for African American Art & Culture in Charleston, will be the featured speaker Friday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the center.
The program will also include a musical performance by student Koviter Robertson. Light refreshments will be served. The program is open to the public free of charge.
Kinzer grew up in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School in 1974. He now lives in Charleston. He has dedicated more than 20 years of service in his community, church, and statewide.
He was named 2001 Distinguished West Virginian and received the Kanawha Valley Jaycee Distinguished Service Award in 2004. He has also received the Jefferson Award.
and in 2009 was designated a West Virginian History Hero.

Cities to receive housing grants
