Fire contained, mostly controlled, NPS says

The fire at New River Gorge is completely contained and mostly controlled, according to a press release from the National Park Service.

Fire crews have made fire containment lines all the way around the outside of the fire and it’s about 75 percent controlled, the press release said.

The fire was hit with four-tenths of an inch of rain Friday, but firefighters won’t know just how helpful that rain is until they’ve surveyed the entire burn area. The press release said firefighters would be looking over the burned area Saturday.

The Endless Wall area will stay closed until the fire is completely under control and safe for the public, the release added.
