Woodrow Wilson HS receives $5,000 grant

BECKLEY — Woodrow Wilson High School received $5,000 Tuesday from College Summit for its dedication to promoting postsecondary success for students, including college and career-readiness.

Jon Charles, executive director of College Summit, commented, “We are pleased to recognize the hard work of the students and staff at Woodrow. More students are taking responsibility for their futures through the collaborative efforts of students leaders, teachers and counselors and our College Summit staff.”

College Summit Coordinator and Woodrow Counselor Tanya Fatony said, “The staff’s participation and support has professionally inspired us to put forth more effort and start new projects within our program. This has made a tremendous different in the outlook of the school.”

Woodrow Wilson seniors who attended a summer peer leadership workshop created a survival guide for high school, initiated a mentoring program to help at-risk youth in ninth and tenth grades, conducted school-wide assemblies, assisted students in applying for college and made daily college planning-related announcements.
