Report: State trooper shoots man brandishing handgun

A Fayette County man received nonfatal gunshot wounds after brandishing a handgun toward state troopers who were executing a search warrant about 10 p.m. Thursday at his residence in Page.

Troopers with the Oak Hill detachment of the West Virginia State Police and troopers with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations entered the residence of Ronald Reese, 55, on South Page Bottom Road, to execute a search warrant related to an open criminal investigation.

First Sgt. Greg Duckworth said Reese refused to obey commands to drop the weapon and was shot by a trooper. Reese sustained three nonfatal gunshot wounds and was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center to receive medical treatment.

Upon his release from the hospital, he will be served warrants for wanton endangerment, brandishing and distribution of a controlled substance, the trooper said. Reese will then be taken to a magistrate for arraignment.
