Spring is here, but winter hanging on

The calendar says it’s spring, but winter just won’t loosen its grip as the National Weather Service placed Greenbrier County under a winter storm warning from noon today through 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Today, sleet and snow in Greenbrier County and other areas of the Allegheny Highlands will turn to snow later tonight. Total accumulations are expected to be between 4 and 8 inches, but higher elevations could receive more, the NWS says.

Winds from 5 to 15 miles per hour and gusts up to 25 miles per hour are expected to blow the snow as temperatures remain around 30.

The NWS says residents of counties in the region, including Raleigh, Summers, Wyoming, Fayette, Nicholas and Monroe, can expect some snow accumulation today through Tuesday; however, hazardous weather was not predicted Saturday afternoon.
