This Saturday, plan on having some great food, an entertaining show, and even a chance to try out a new dance.
Alexandria’s Workshop for Dancers will be held Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Gates Party Room on 363 Ragland Road in Beckley.
Moroccan and Egyptian style dancing will be taught by Samra, who comes from Winston-Salem, N.C.
She has taught all over the world, including Bali and Egypt.
Sandy Stewart, a dancer and dance teacher for over 35 years, said she is very excited to have these new dance styles being brought to Beckley.
The workshop fee is $35 at the door.
“The best exercise for your body is dance. We stretch and tone in our weekly class which starts again on April 4 at Gates Party Room on Ragland Road in Beckley. I have taken lessons from the Master Belly Dance Teachers from the U.S. and the Mid-East countries and South America. Both women and men are dancers and teachers.”
She said she and her troupe have performed for many charities in the area and helped to raise thousands of dollars for their cause throughout the years.
Later that evening, “A Night in Morocco” dinner and belly-dancing performance will be held at 110 Marshall, That Bluesy Artspace, which is located near the intersection of Eisenhower Drive and Johnstown Road, directly behind Greg Lilly Auto.
“This evening will be not only great food but a dance performance by both professional and student dancers from West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee, with both troupe and solo performances during the evening.”
Dinner, which will consist of a little Middle East cooking and some West Virginia favorites, will start at 6:30 p.m.
Entertainment starts at 7 p.m. with professional and student dancers.
Following the dance, enjoy some jazz with Lady D from 9 to 11 p.m.
