The annual Irish Fest will be held today at Pipestem State Park, packed with Irish sports, food and fun.
Activities Director Shirley Martin said Irish road bowling will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“Irish Road Bowling is always a lot of fun. It’s a relatively new sport and not a whole lot of people know about it.”
She explained the game is played with a steel cannonball, about the size of a tennis ball, called a “bowl.” Teams form and throw the ball from Point A to Point B and the team with the lowest number of bowls wins.
In addition to the road sporting event, Martin said an Irish buffet will be available at 5:30 p.m. in the Bluestone Dining Room.
At 8 p.m., Solar Creek, an Irish band from Beckley, will perform at the McKeever Lodge Conference Center.
Admission for the show will be $5 and a cash bar will be available at the event.
For lodging reservations, call 304-466-1800. Martin said those staying for the Irish Fest will be given a discount on lodging and the Irish buffet.
“It’s a great day to learn more about Irish heritage and culture.”
The event has been hosted for over 20 years at Pipestem and it is sponsored by the Southern West Virginia Irish Heritage Festival.
