— A motor vehicle accident Monday resulted in one Beckley man’s arrest for drinking and driving, according to Beckley Police.

Arthur Eugene Aust, 67, of Clearfork Road, was arrested and charged with a DUI, according to Patrolman A.L. Workman.

The wreck happened just after 2 p.m. on Eisenhower Drive.

Aust, who was driving a Ford Explorer, was attempting to enter Eisenhower Drive from the Little General when he pulled out in front of a Buick SUV traveling south, Workman explained.

The Buick, unable to stop, slammed into the side of Aust’s Explorer in a T-bone fashion, Workman said.

No injuries were reported and no charges were filed against the driver of the Buick.

Aust, however, was taken into custody without incident and charged with a DUI after registering a .094 percent on a Breathalyzer administered by police. The state’s legal limit is 0.08 percent for individuals over 21.

If convicted, Aust could lose his license and serve jail time, in addition to court costs and an imposed fine, Workman said.

Aust was remanded to Southern Regional Jail.
