BECKLEY — More than 150 people attended the funeral of former Gov. Hulett C. Smith Friday at Beckley Presbyterian Church. Among those in attendance were former Govs. Gaston Caperton and Bob Wise, U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller, along with other members of the state’s congressional delegation. Smith died Jan. 15 in Arizona at age 93. The Beckley native served as the state’s 27th governor from 1965 until 1969.
