Two-vehicle accident sends one to CAMC

The Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a two-vehicle, head-on collision Thursday that left one person injured, reported Nicholas County Sheriff Wetzel Bennett.

Two vehicles collided Thursday around 7:36 p.m. on W.Va. 20 in Arlingdale just past Adkins Oil, said Bennett. Police reported severe damage to both cars.

Rodney Johnson, 44, of Cowen, was extracted from the vehicle by emergency responders and flown to Charleston Area Medical Center via HealthNet.

As of press time Friday, no more information was available regarding Johnson’s condition.

Man flees house arrest,  is caught by police

A Nicholas County man was arrested after violating home confinement, reported Nicholas County Sheriff Wetzel Bennett.

Deputies went to the residence of Gary Bradford Donelson, 28, of Canvas, Thursday around 2:30 p.m. with an arrest warrant, said police.

The man, who was already on home confinement, crawled out a back window of the residence and escaped on foot into a wooded area, said Bennett.

Nicholas County sheriff’s deputies, West Virginia State Police and a K-9 unit from the Mt. Olive Correctional Complex assisted with the search for Donelson.

Donelson was taken into custody without incident at 9:30 p.m. at an IGA Grocery in Nettie, said the sheriff.

Cpl. J.S. Bennett of the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
