State Sen. Mike Green Monday filed for re-election to his 9th District seat.
Green, a Democrat, is a native of Raleigh County. His district covers Raleigh and Wyoming counties and a portion of McDowell County.
Green, in a release, said he is humbled and honored that, even in these tough economic times, people from all walks of life and a broad array of interest groups support him and have helped him raise more than $100,000 for his re-election.
“I grew up here, and I know the issues that are important to my friends and neighbors,” Green said. “If re-elected, I will continue to fight for our hardworking coal miners, our seniors and our veterans. I will work with Gov. Tomblin to keep the state fiscally strong, and work with my colleagues in the Legislature to develop a responsible funding plan for the upkeep and continued development of our roads, as they are the key driver of economic development.”
Green has served on several committees including Energy, Industry and Mining Committee, Finance, Banking and Insurance and currently serves as chairman of the Senate’s Confirmation Committee.
He and his wife Kelly live in Beckley with their two children.
