Many nTelos customers across West Virginia are without service due to power outages.
Mike Minnis, director of public relations for nTelos, explained that the Frankenstorm presented a challenge for the company.
About 30 percent of towers in Charleston and around 40 percent of cell towers in the Beckley area are out of service.
This is about 32 towers in each area.
Minnis explained that some towers have back-up generators and will run until they are out of fuel or until the company is able to send fuel or deploy portable generators to the cell sites.
“Due to the severity of the snow, access to cell sites has been a challenge. Full restoration depends on our access to the cell sites and power restoration,” he said.
nTelos customers may continue to have spotty service until power is fully restored.
Minnis added the company is monitoring each cell site around the clock.
