Autumn Fest to offer variety of fun, prizes

Pineville’s annual Autumn Fest — scheduled for Saturday on Main Street from 5 until 10:30 p.m. — will provide a variety of fun and prizes for children and adults.

Main Street will be closed to through traffic at 2 p.m. Saturday, with detours marked.

“This year’s event will be bigger and better than years past,” emphasized Mayor Tim Ellison.

Bullet Proof will be performing on stage.

Other featured activities include the annual chili cook-off, the children’s tailgate party, the haunted house, cake walk, pumpkin carving/painting contest, costume contests for various age categories, and two “Jumping Houses.”

Additionally, there will be several vendors selling novelties, baked goods, and other items. Vendors must be set up by 4 p.m., according to officials

A booth decorating contest is also planned.

Sponsored by the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center’s LPN program, the haunted house will be open today, Friday and Saturday from 6 until 10 p.m. in the former Cook’s Hardware building on Back Street, Ellison said.

This year’s theme is “The Haunted Sanitarium.”

Admission is $4 for adults; $2 for children; and $18 for groups of six or more.

Pineville Volunteer Fire Department members are sponsoring the Jumping Houses for youngsters, Ellison said.

The chili cook-off will provide the top three prizes in the business/organization category and the individual category, in addition to an award for “the spiciest” chili.

Costume prizes will be awarded for children in “five and under” as well as “six and over” categories for best overall, scariest, best character, and cutest.

For adults, prizes will be awarded for the top three costumes.
