Beckley nominated for a $100,000 dog park

BECKLEY — Beckley dog owners have long expressed the need for a dog park in Beckley, and that dream could soon become a reality.

Beckley has been nominated for the 2014 PetSafe “Bark for Your Park” contest, with a grand prize of $100,000 to build a local dog park.

PetSafe, a leading innovator in pet behavior and lifestyle solutions, invited communities across the nation to participate in the third annual contest.

Civic leaders have shown their support and even found a place for the park, which will play a role in PetSafe’s selection of the finalists.

Citizens will also be able to vote every day to help move their city forward in the contest.

The 15 finalists will be announced June 13, and finalist cities will be asked to produce a video for their projected park.

The finalist city with the most votes will receive the grand prize and three runners-up and the city with the highest percentage of votes to its population will each receive $25,000.

Winners will be announced Aug. 7.
