The second annual “Healthy Kids, Healthy West Virginia” wellness fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Soccer Complex.
An initiative between Generation Beckley, Raleigh County Schools’ Wellness Council and the YMCA of Southern West Virginia, Healthy Kids will offer fun activities to get kids moving and nutritional tips for healthy snacking.
Josh Grant, event organizer, said students will have an extra initiative to attend: The school with the highest percentage of students in attendance will receive an X-Box Kinect with five games donated by RESA I. This will be used by the lucky school’s physical education department.
Park, Beckley-Stratton and Shady Spring middle school cheerleaders will lead the crowd in dance, and the Woodrow Wilson High School Lassies will perform and teach Beyonce’s “Move Your Body” dance, said Grant.
In addition to other fun activities, MSU culinary professor Chef Roy Lynch will demonstrate healthy ideas for parents on the go, and participants will try their hand at his quick, easy and healthy recipes, said Grant.
Students will receive T-shirts and the opportunity to win other door prizes.
Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Come dressed for active participation, and help instill healthy life choices to combat childhood obesity.
