Alderson Main Street to host program on improving looks of community

Alderson Main Street will host a program on creating attractive focal points to enhance the community and screening out areas that are visually unappealing Thursday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Adam Hodges, West Virginia State University Extension agent will bring ideas and images from New River Gorge Development Authority’s Beautification Toolkit. This is an educational community development toolkit to offer ideas and recommendations to communities for improving the visual perception of their area or “create curb appeal.”

Recommendations focus on gateways or entrances to the community, screening and creating edges, inviting pedestrian zones, environmental art ideas and necessary maintenance concerns.

There are compelling benefits to implementing beautification/revitalization efforts such as those offered in this toolkit. It has been proved that projects like this are stepping stones to larger benefits such as an increase in business, which can, in turn, lead to more jobs and economic prosperity for the area.
