Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh announced Friday that the city is in the final stages of implementing its new controlled Access Parking System and will have it up and running the first part of May.
“This new system will give the city more control over its paid parking system. Our monthly parking subscribers will be issued a card that will grant them controlled access into the Beckley Intermodal Gateway.
“Our public transient parkers will now be able to utilize two pay stations that will eliminate the hassle that you frequently find with parking meters. One pay station is located at the Leslie Gates Place and Neville Street lot, and the other station is located on the top level of the Intermodal Gateway.
“Patrons will be issued a receipt that will be displayed on their dashboard. The pay stations will accept cash and credit cards. The city feels this new technology will certainly move us forward and be a time savings for both the city and our parking public.”
Pugh also added that Signature Controls, the equipment vendor, did an outstanding job of working with the city during the project and keeping disturbances to a minimum.
