Rose and Quesenberry gives tree to school

Gift includes several books, 2 e-readers

SHADY SPRING — Shady Spring Elementary School received a special Christmas gift Friday from one of its Partners in Education.

Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home donated a Christmas tree loaded with books to the elementary school.

This tree was decorated by Glade Springs Book Club and was a part of the United Way of Southern West Virginia’s Wonderland of Trees.

“They’re hoping to improve their reading scores this year, and we thought this tree would be great for the school,” said Zach Waddell, with Rose and Quesenberry.

The tree was not only filled with books, it also came with two Kindle e-readers which will be given away through a drawing at the school.

Waddell said winning the tree at the auction was a twofold win — not only did Shady Spring Elementary get the tree, but the money from the auction went to the United Way.

“We do everything we can to give back to the community as much as possible,” he said.

Principal Penny Carrico said she was surprised that the school would be receiving the unique Christmas tree.

“We are just so appreciative. The students were so excited. It’s a great way to give back to the school and the community.”

Carrico said some of the books will be put into the school library and some children’s books will be donated to other organizations in the community.
