Several local bands will host a benefit concert tonight at the Beckley Moose Lodge to honor the memory of Gavin Bailey and raise money for a rare type of childhood cancer.
The Boatmen, Motion Theatre, Matt Jones with Stuart Hill and JCBC will perform at the event, which is open to the public. Admission is $10 and all ages are welcome.
Matt Mullins, lead singer for The Boatmen, said the event was initially planned to raise money to assist the Bailey family with their son Gavin’s medical expenses.
Gavin was born Oct. 5, 2011, at Summersville Memorial Hospital, where he was soon diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called neurocutaneous melanosis.
He underwent multiple brain surgeries and procedures, but the melanocytes kept spreading, and he passed away last Saturday.
Mullins said the benefit concert will now help further research for neurocutaneous melanosis.
He encourages everyone to come out tonight for some great music for a great cause.

To help the family, a bank account has been set up at First Community Bank, Attn: Gavin Bailey Fund, 16 Red Oak Drive, Craigsville, WV 26205.
