Tomblin to help kick off cell phone campaign

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will join community organizations, law enforcement, highway safety experts, and local and state leaders to kick off a statewide educational campaign related to the new safe driving law regarding the use of cell phones at 2 p.m. Monday at Tamarack.

Effective July 1, using a hand-held cell phone while driving, without a hands-free device, will be elevated from a secondary to a primary offense in West Virginia — enabling law enforcement to pull drivers over and ticket drivers. Last year, Tomblin worked with legislators to make texting while driving a primary offense.

The public is invited to attend.
