Fire breaks out at an assisted living facility

By Mary Catherine Brooks
Wyoming County Bureau Chief

— Traffic was stopped through Mullens Thursday evening for a couple of hours following a three-alarm fire at Mullens Manor.

The fire was contained to the office area of the assisted living facility, and took fire fighters about an hour to bring under control, according to Wyoming County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy C.S. Parker.

Both Mullens and Pineville fire departments responded to the call, which came in just before 7 p.m., Parker said. The Sophia department was also dispatched, but the fire was brought under control before they arrived, Parker explained.

There were no injuries reported.

About 30 residents were transported to an area hotel for temporary lodging, he said.

The fire alarm in the office went off Thursday afternoon, but firemen were turned back as officials thought it a false alarm, Parker said.

A sprinkler system in the building also helped contain the fire, he added.
