Local law enforcement officers are warning the public against a one or more individuals fradulently soliciting funds in the name of the Fraternal Order of Police for the Shop With A Cop fundraiser.
According to a press released issued by Chris Young, president of the Fayette County Fraternal Order of Police, citizens have complained about phone calls soliciting funds in the name of both the Fayette County Memorial Lodge and the Beckley Diamond Lodge in Raleigh County.
These lodges are currently soliciting funds by telephone, but the efforts are not for or connected with the Shop With A Cop fundraiser.
Young said actual fund requests for Shop With A Cop are all done through the mail.
“If anyone calls you and represents that he or she is soliciting funds for the Fayette County Fraternal Order of Police’s Shop With A Cop fundraiser, this is fraud. We urge anyone who receives a call of this nature to immediately report this to their local law enforcement agency and, under no circumstances, to make any type of donation to this fundraiser,” said Young
