Beckley Council opens bids for new fire truck

BECKLEY — Beckley City Council members are in the process of reviewing and three bids they opened during Tuesday’s regular meeting for a new aerial ladder fire truck for the city fire department.

The bids were from All American Fire Equipment Inc. for $797,769, Finley Fire Equipment for $848,187 and KME for $849,798,.

Mayor Emmett Pugh said that council at large members and city treasurer will review the bids and council will consider awarding a bid at a future date.

Also during the meeting, council voted to appoint Pete Torrico to a five year term on the Housing Authority; Doris J. Boyden-McCormick to fill the unexpired term of Hilda Hosten on the Human Rights Commission; and Robert File and Jack Riddle to three year terms on the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Council was also notified that Fanali Enterprises Inc., which does business as Ocean Bay, located at 3225 Robert C. Byrd Drive, intends to operate a West Virginia ABCA private club, wine restaurant. The property location is consistent with the city’s zoning ordinance.

Pugh announced also that Beckley’s trick-or-treat will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
