For eight years, leaders of the Wyoming County-based One Voice have wanted to expand services into other West Virginia counties. Word that Raleigh County will be the first satellite office came Thursday when Debra Davis, executive director of One Voice, and Linda K. Epling announced that the faith-based rehabilitation organization will be based in offices at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
Epling explained that she believes strongly in Davis’ program and after about 30 minutes of discussion in a local restaurant, it was determined One Voice would have a space in which to operate in Raleigh County.
“I cried,” Davis said of her reaction to when she found out One Voice would have an office in Beckley.
Davis said Raleigh County’s One Voice is still in the beginning stages, but hopes to have the office opened around Nov. 1. Currently, Davis is looking for more volunteers who can help their fellow community members.
A “Call to Unity” organizational meeting for interested volunteers is slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the stadium or individuals may call the One Voice Wyoming County office at 304-732-7701. Those who need assistance from the organization are also asked to call the Wyoming County office.
Sheriff Steve Tanner said he is pleased One Voice is opening an office in Raleigh County because the most successful rehabilitation programs are faith-based and last at least one year.
“That’s why Debbie’s program is so important,” Tanner said.
One Voice assists community members find the help they need, such as drug rehabilitation, and helps motivate them through spiritual and Biblical principles.
