Come see a nationally renown indie musician and support scholarships for Raleigh County’s School of Harmony.
Local writer Ken Bays has partnered with Coffee Beans and Books to bring a big name artist to the Beckley area while raising funds to give more students opportunities to take music lessons at the school.
Bays said they need to raise a total of $1,600 by Oct. 26 to bring singer-songwriter Eef Barzelay, of the rock band Clem Snide, to Coffee Beans and Books for a solo acoustic performance on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.
“We don’t get a lot of nationally known acts here in Beckley. We are hoping to bring in a concert for the community and for students of the school while providing some lessons for kids who want to study music but maybe can’t afford it,” he said.
The fundraising campaign is being conducted through Kickstarter, an online fundraising management tool.
Thus far, a little more than $600 has been pledged.
Bays said those who visit the website (www.tinyurl.com/BringEef) can purchase a ticket for $25 or two for $45. Larger group tickets are available at a lesser price. Those wanting to really help out the event can spend $300 and Eef Barzelay will write and record a song for you based on info and ideas you give him. This package also comes with four tickets to the Nov. 9 concert.
Once able to raise $1,600 to bring the artist to Beckley, all proceeds over that will go directly to student scholarships.
On the website, those wanting to attend the concert will pledge the amount of their tickets but won’t be charged until the goal of $1,600 is met. Bays said that means no one will be charged if the event does not make the funds to bring the artist to Beckley.
A sandwich and a coffee bar will be provided free for those attending this event, he added.
