— After being missing for a week, the body of a missing Beckley man was found by city police near his home Tuesday morning. Police say they believe the man died of natural causes.

Beckley Police Cpl. R.J. Gauldin said that he conducted a perimeter search around Greenbrier Court, where 67-year-old Howard James Bartley lived. Gauldin searched the area after speaking to one of Bartley’s family members, who expressed concern that he walks and might have fallen from a cliff near his home.

Bartley’s body was found after about 15 minutes of looking. Gauldin said the body was behind a tree in a wooded area and would not have been seen easily.

Gauldin said Bartley’s death is not suspicious and that the medical examiner thinks he likely died of a heart attack.
