Eva McVey, 16, has been chosen as one of four finalists in a nationwide contest singing the National Anthem. She is known in the area for singing the anthem at the West Virginia State Fair, the Alderson 4th of July Celebration and other events.
The Alderson resident is also a contemporary Christian artist, who released her first CD last month. She has sung in many venues, and does vocal training and recording in Nashville.
The contest, sponsored by the National Cattlemen’s Association, was open to youth 18 and under in the United States. The winner will receive airfare and accommodations in Nashville to sing at the National Cattlemen’s Convention and will sing at the Grand Ole Opry, opening for Trace Adkins, Diamond Rio and others.
McVey was chosen by a panel of judges from the many entries to be in the final four, which are then voted for online by anyone who wants to vote.
