BECKLEY — Daylight saving time is here. Spring officially arrives today.
And people are happy.
When Elizabeth Tapp, who had just finished exercising at the Beckley YMCA, was asked if she was excited for more daylight hours, she replied, “Thank God.”
Tapp said she’s going to use the added light to exercise more. She said her routine begins at the YMCA, then she goes for a run along the bike trail, but she can’t always get the latter part in when it’s dark and cold out.
And with more sun comes warmer days.
Tapp said she’s thrilled for warm, sunny days after such a bombarding winter. It’s kept her, and many others, indoors.
“We’ve had little bit of cabin fever,” she said.
Fayetteville resident Carly Norosky echoed Tapp’s statement, saying everybody in town has “been getting cabin fever.”
“It’s awesome,” she said about the arrival of spring. “I’m ready to see life again in town.”
Aaron Rose, a student at Mountain State University, said the main thing he’s happy for is “winter being gone.”
“I’m excited for the days being longer,” he said on Neville Street, wearing shorts and a hooded sweatshirt. “I’ll be outside more and at the lake.”
He said he’s looking forward to playing basketball and grilling outside.
Lee Plants said he’s eager for the extra light in the evening and plans to use it to fish and hunt.
He added, “I’m eager for it to get warm out, too.”
Joyce Saunders took advantage of the warm day Friday to walk her dog Miss Priss.
She said she’s going to use the added daylight to walk her more, work out, clean her car and play with her kids.
“I love it,” she said about daylight saving time. “Keep it year round.”
