After months of investigating and gathering evidence, police have arrested a man for the first degree murder of Frank Acord.
Charles William Young, 40, of Fairdale, was taken into custody Wednesday without incident.
Acord, 65, also of Fairdale, was reported missing by his family Feb. 12. Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner said it quickly became apparent that Acord was missing due to foul play.
On March 3, Acord’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds near an abandoned coal mine. Police say they immediately developed a suspect, but had to collect evidence to make an arrest.
Lead investigator Det. James Williams said the results from evidence testing linked Young to Acord. The two had known each other for quite some time; Acord had hired Young for construction services at his residence.
Williams did not comment on a potential motive for the crime.
Young was arrested Wednesday in Glen Daniel and charged with first degree murder with use of a firearm. He is being held at Southern Regional Jail without bond.
